The Anti-Scam Response Team has come up with an initiative to incentivize community members to find and report to DNS registrars scam and phishing sites that plague the Polkadot ecosystem.
This initiative aims to make use of the sub-bounties pallet once it’s part of the runtime to issue rewards, but in the meantime, it is being tested out with a small number of participants and the rewards are issued with tips. This tip proposal is for such a reward.
The process for participating is described in this Google Form, which is how the participating members submit their reports.
Discord user dubstard#0008 has done excellent work since this initiative started and has already received a tip last month for his efforts. This tip is for the sites he found and took down in September.
This is a list of these sites:
All these sites have been reported to the polkadot.js phishing repo as well:
https://github.com/polkadot-js/phishing
All these sites posed a direct or indirect threat to users and their funds and were damaging the reputation of the ecosystem.
So, we propose to the Council that a total tip of 40 DOT is awarded, which includes the 20% finder’s fee of 8 DOT of the curator that submitted this proposal.
The curator of this initiative and submitter of this proposal:
• ccris02: Discord moderator on the Polkadot server, Polkadot and Kusama validator
attests that he has verified all the information submitted by the beneficiary based on the rules of the initiative.
The Anti-Scam Response Team has started a program to encourage people to find and report scam and phishing websites in the Polkadot ecosystem. They plan to use a special reward system called the sub-bounties pallet, but for now, they are giving out rewards as tips.
To join, people fill out a Google Form to submit their reports. A Discord user named dubstard#0008 has been doing a great job finding and reporting these sites. He found several harmful websites in September and already got a tip last month.
All the reported sites were added to the polkadot.js phishing list on GitHub. The team is asking for a tip of 40 DOT to reward dubstard#0008, including a 20% finder’s fee for the person who submitted the proposal.
The person in charge of this program, ccris02, has checked all the information and confirms it follows the rules.
