Propose to revamp Polkadot BD Bounty with New Curator Set and Structure

We are proposing a new list of BD Bounty Curators who are reputable contributors to the Polkadot ecosystem and are currently aggressively contributing to Business and growth related activities of Polkadot within their various roles and mandates. All curators in this new list are those who have already been committing their time to contribute to the success of Polkadot and its ecosystem, either as part of teams building on Polkadot, to collectives or to Decentralized Voice or Futures Program led by Web3 Foundation.

MAIN PROBLEMS

The BD Bounty was initially conceived as a volunteer-based initiative, requiring no operational expenses. This approach, however, led to a lack of sustained commitment from some members, likely due to the time-intensive nature of the role.

The BD Bounty was established with a relatively short planning period, resulting in a lack of detailed operational guidelines or clearly defined responsibilities for curators.

Business development is a critical function within the Polkadot ecosystem at its current stage. The presence of numerous inactive curators poses a significant challenge to the effective advancement of this vital area.

SOLUTION

  1. Reduce the curator set from 11 to 5 and introduce new curators from the Polkadot ecosystem who have specific expertise and a network.
  2. Introduce appropriate financial incentives for these curators and task them with dedicated responsibilities in order to increase efficiency and decision making to maximize results.
  3. Implement a dismiss mechanism for curators who neglect their duties and do not actively contribute to their role.
  4. Implement a new Multisig with a proxy set-up Implement a transparent and systematic operation flow for BD Bounty between curators and proposers.
  5. Monthly Office Hours with a potential Livestream Setup on BD initiatives.
  6. Coordinate with other ecosystem bounties and DF teams to share information related to deals and opportunities which can benefit the ecosystem.
  7. Set up a milestone-based incentives system for qualified proposals.

GOALS OF THE BOUNTY

  • Identify and secure partnerships between Polkadot projects and businesses to enhance ecosystem collaboration.
  • Promote initiatives that facilitate the integration of external applications and services within Polkadot and with existing teams.
  • Build a network of business deal finders (introducers) who can connect Polkadot projects with potential clients, partners, and capital allocators.
  • Provide resources and support to help business deal finders navigate the integration process and close deals effectively.
  • Establish reward mechanisms for deal finders who successfully facilitate integrations that result in tangible benefits for the ecosystem.
  • Promote partnerships across various industries to demonstrate the versatility of the Polkadot ecosystem.
  • Develop strategies to encourage the adoption of Polkadot-based solutions among businesses and end-users.
  • Create mechanisms for ongoing feedback from businesses and deal finders to continuously improve the bounty program and ecosystem offerings.

NEW OPERATION STRUCTURE

PROPOSING CURATOR FEE (FOR DISCUSSION)

This is for roles with commitment of at least 8 hours/week (Still in discussion before finalizing) Option 1: Curators, General Manager: 3,000 USD/month (for part-time job)

Option 2: Curators, General Manager: 2,000 USD/month + a bonus of 5% of any compensation earned by BD proposals that they brought to the bounty (this is another payment from the bounty, it is not taken out of the BDers compensation).

Note: We are open for discussion on these options and will finalize when we post the proposal on-chain.

Technical Implementer: 50 USD/hour (depending on workload)

Dismissal

If the curators neglect their duties they will be eliminated by the strike system, voted out or instructed to step down.

The demotion will be considered by two main factors:

  • The efficiency of the general bounty.
  • The contribution of an individual curator.

The curator set has the responsibility to point out the lack of contribution and propose a vote based on the efficiency of the bounty.
