The Polkadot community has grown massively over the past few months and many different people are part of it. This is why community principles could provide a north star for all interactions in the community.

In other words, principles represent an aspirational commitment made by everyone in the community to live by a certain way of life. Here is a proposal for 5 principles of the Polkadot community:

  • Respect: The Polkadot universe is made up of many different communities. Not all of them have the same opinion on how things should be done! Be kind and treat others with respect, even if you don’t share the same viewpoint. Threats, personal attacks, trolling, or vulgar remarks towards individuals or groups are a no-no!

  • Openness: The future is much brighter when we work together. This involves being open to others and empowering them to share their ideas. In this way, all members of the community can feel safe collaborating and contributing to the ecosystem, at every level of knowledge.

  • Participation: Learn, build, stake, nominate, vote, ask, help, advocate. Everything you do helps contribute to the decentralization of Polkadot. Your actions are a very practical way to contribute to making the next generation of the internet better and fairer for all.

  • Innovation: Polkadot is on the cutting edge of technology, providing the infrastructure to bring innovation closer to production. New ideas and projects are powered by the community. Your creative contributions are part of what makes the ecosystem so groundbreaking.

  • Safety: The community attracts a lot of great people, but it attracts a lot of scammers, too! Stay safe in the space. Protect your privacy and keep your data secure. Always check the source and don’t share personal information. Be wary of unsolicited direct messages. And, of course, let others know if you spot suspicious activity.

Do you feel close to these 5 principles as a member of the Polkadot community? Would you like to add anything? Please share your thoughts in the replies.
