Dear Polkadot Community,
I'm submitting a retroactive reward request for my involvement as HA over the last 3 months. Details of what I've done over the last 3 months can be found here.
Although I spent my full time on these efforts, this request will be for 20hrs/week of work at a rate of 62.5$/hr.
Getting elected as HA was a motivation to set up a team aimed at incubating talent and putting the spotlight on Polkadot, in a project named `The Core`. I've funded some initiatives of the team with my own funds, and hope to continue doing that until it's able to secure funding from the treasury.
I'll continue working with interested parties to reform the ambassadorship program, and I'll continue working with/leading `The Core` team to carry out its activities, one of which is a quarterly Blockspace event aimed at "showing" people what Polkadot is and how to use it and its tools. You can check out information about the first Blockspace event here.
Some parts of this fund will go to The Core's multi-sig account for funding the team in the meantime (that's if the proposal passes of course).
Please have a look at the document highlighting my involvement over the last 3 months, and feel free to drop your feedback and queries on this post.
Thank you.
While I appreciate your efforts as an ambassador, it’s important that ambassador activities prioritize creating value for the broader Polkadot community rather than promoting individual projects. After reviewing your contributions, it appears that a significant portion of your work has primarily benefited your company, The Core, with limited measurable impact on the wider ecosystem.
Furthermore, The Core Blockspace, being "a quarterly event aimed at building networks with various Web3 communities," suggests that its focus extends beyond Polkadot and includes other crypto communities. This makes it difficult to justify compensating these efforts using Polkadot-specific funds, as the benefits are not exclusive to our ecosystem. Given that the primary purpose of the ambassador program is to support and grow the Polkadot community, I don’t believe compensation is warranted at this time.
Additionally, requesting compensation retroactively, rather than proactively seeking alignment on value-add initiatives, is not a good precedent to set for the Polkadot community. I encourage you to focus on initiatives that provide clear and tangible benefits to the broader network if you would like to revisit this conversation in the future.
