Polkadot is the promise of an open society of developers and tinkerers building Web3 infrastructure and resources. Polkadot Governance is the place where we negotiate how we are going to realize this promise.
Today, Polkadot Governance lacks strategy and direction. It is exposed to the goodwill of those who propose punctual improvements and those unspecified voter blocs that vote to their own gusto. Polkadot’s previous Gov1 legislative council has been replaced with OpenGov, but little effort has been expended on giving shape to this new form of governance.
This proposal intends to kick off a process of constituting this governance by bringing stakeholders together, negotiating shared goals, and agreeing on better legislative and executive structures and procedures.
The process is already underway with ongoing discussions on several topics:
The objective of this specific proposal is to kick off this process of constituting governance and to get a positive signal from Governance that this direction is desired.
Intermediate products of this phase will include discussions on the forums, AAG, Twitter Spaces, and on YouTube.
The final product of this phase will be a report that summarizes where consensus was achieved, and where there are still open points, together with key discussion points raised by stakeholders and a summary description of participating stakeholders. The report will conclude with suggestions on how to move forward.
