Currently, there are already 63 registered projects and 240 developers for the Polkadot Hackathon 2023. We will hold an offline demo day in Shanghai on July 13th and 14th! The finalist teams will demonstrate their projects and compete for the final evaluation on-site. After the event, the list of winning teams for the 2023 Polkadot Hackathon will be announced. Let's witness together the most innovative projects of the new generation of the Polkadot ecosystem in 2023!

Personally, I agree with this proposal. There are lots of teams/Projects that come from previous Asia hackathon. Like Phala, Parallel, Oak Network, Crust, Acala and PNS which now are the most important project in the Polkadot ecosystem. We do hope the hackathon will be held this summer!

Just want to point out that there are about 300k USD (~60k DOT) are distributed as prize to participating teams out of the ~70k DOT proposed, if I understand the proposal correctly.

And this hackathon will be a physical event held in Shanghai, so a portion of the cost also goto the venue booking.

This proposal is very good. OneBlock is a relatively well-known developer community in Asia. The previous Polkadot hackathons they have held in the past have always been very popular in the Chinese community. Every hackathon has produced some good ecological projects and developers. I hope this event can continue.

Looks great to have another Hackathon in such a bear market. We need more developers and builders for our ecosystem. According to the cost breakdown, the main cost is the rewards for projects. That's great!

Here, I would like to clarify something.
We funds to be used to host, prize, organize the 2023 Summer Polkadot Hackathon in Shanghai, China.and the operating cost is 1/6 of the total cost, and the remaining money is distributed to the winning team as rewards. and this hackathon competition needs to be held together with the polkadot decoded conference.

I am a participant in this hackathon. The oneblock community has held many competitions. I am also a well-known builder of the polkadot ecosystem in the Chinese area. Many people have come into contact with polkadot in the community and become developers in the substrate ecosystem.

My project for this entry: Origin of Civilization is a game built in the polkadot/Ethereum ecosystem. The game combines elements such as city building, tower defense, and real-time competition. Our goal is to store all assets in the game on the chain. UNREAL ENGINE develops the competitive gameplay of the team.

I support the 2023 Polkadot Summer Hackathon proposal submitted by OneBlock. This initiative is key to technological innovation, community engagement and economic growth within the Polkadot ecosystem.

  1. Proven Success: OneBlock’s previous hackathons have been resounding successes. Their expertise in organizing these events is well-documented and beyond reproach. The continuity of this event is imperative for maintaining the momentum of past achievements.

  2. Substrate Adoption: The hackathon is central to promoting Substrate, an open-source framework that is the bedrock of decentralized applications. The event will galvanize the developer community and catalyze the adoption of Substrate.

  3. Empowering Developers: OneBlock has been pivotal in educating developers through Substrate courses. The hackathon is the crucible where these learners forge their skills into real-world applications, contributing tangibly to the blockchain ecosystem.

  4. Talent Incubator: The hackathon is a hotbed for talent. With a burgeoning community of 240 developers and 63 projects, it’s a breeding ground for innovation. Previous events have spawned projects like Phala and Acala, which are now cornerstones of the Polkadot ecosystem.

  5. Transparency and Stewardship: OneBlock’s commitment to transparency and accountability in fund management is commendable. The disclosure of operational costs and prize disbursements in post-event reports ensures that funds are allocated judiciously.

  6. Economic Catalyst: The requested funding of 69,786 DOT is a judicious investment. The hackathon is not just an event, but an economic catalyst that spurs innovation, fosters collaborations, and generates employment within the Polkadot ecosystem.

  7. Global Standing: Hosting this event in Shanghai will bolster China’s standing as a vanguard in blockchain technology. It will also enhance the global stature of Polkadot and the participating organizations.

Great initiative, we need more Hackathons for Polkadot, and especially in the Asian region. OneBlock has a good track record in organising this, and should be given the resources required. They also asked me to act as a judge of the Hackathon, which I accepted to do. So I will be able to judge the quality of participating projects there for myself and share this feedback with the community.
