PolkaWorld votes AYE!

We agree with the issues and current challenges highlighted by the proposer, and we fully recognize the importance of effective talent matching for the healthy functioning of Polkadot and the OpenGov system.

However, we did have three main concerns:

  1. Can the Ecosystem Talent Lead help establish clear compensation standards?
  2. What exactly will this role’s responsibilities and decision-making processes be within the OpenGov framework?
  3. What specific roles or types of talent are currently missing in the ecosystem? Will this person be responsible for identifying those gaps?

The proposer has provided responses that we find satisfactory. You can view all the details and feedback here.

Dear Proposer,

Thank you for your proposal. Our first vote on this proposal is AYE.

The Medium Spender track requires 50% quorum (at least 5 aye votes) and simple majority of non-abstain votes according to our voting policy v0.2, and any referendum in which the majority of members vote abstain receives an abstain vote. This proposal has received five aye and four nay votes from ten available members. Below is a summary of our members' comments:

Opinions on the proposed initiative varied significantly. Supporters expressed enthusiasm, believing it could enhance the ecosystem by connecting visionaries with development talent and potentially fostering job opportunities. Some suggested additional features, like a job board for small tasks. Conversely, critics questioned the necessity of the proposal, arguing that existing organizations should address hiring challenges independently and prioritizing support for current builders over attracting new talent. Overall, the debate highlighted differing perspectives on the ecosystem's immediate needs and the role of centralized initiatives.

On behalf of the 🌶️ Hungarian Polkadot DAO 🌶️:

While we acknowledge Polkaworld’s concerns, we also believe this approach does not adequately address the unique challenges of Web3 talent acquisition. Traditional HR professionals often lack the specialized experience and mindset required for Web3 roles, as well as the expertise across the diverse verticals within the ecosystem. Even specialised HR agencies tend to focus on specific domains, making it unrealistic for a single individual to cover all necessary areas effectively. Therefore, a project- or task-based approach is more appropriate than delegating authority to a single person.
