Pop CLI was initiated in late 2023 by R0GUE, a team of ex-Parity engineers deeply experienced with the Polkadot ecosystem. The Pop CLI supports the full development lifecycle for both Polkadot chains and smart contracts. # **Context of the proposal** 

The motivation behind this proposal stems from the recent milestone achieved by Mubert Protocol-Team in building and launching the first data rollup on the Polkadot ecosystem. With the technical foundations established and early grant support from the Web3 Foundation (large grant from the Web3 Foundation), we seek to amplify our go-to-market strategy by co-hosting a high-impact series of events through a signed collaboration with Pudgy Penguins (also including technological efforts).

1. The origin of this proposal is deeply rooted in extensive ecosystem engagement and strategic alignment between Mubert Protocol, Polkadot, and the Pudgy Penguins brand. After finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pudgy Penguins, and working on a detailed Scope of Work (SOW), the opportunity arose to activate the partnership during the **Pudgy Penguins Asia Tour 2025** — a high-visibility, multi-country event series spanning Turkey, Japan, and Singapore (or Seoul).
2. This initiative was discussed across multiple communication channels including Telegram, meetings, and formal MOU negotiations, involving both the Mubert and Pudgy Penguins teams. Early collaboration efforts with SubWallet and Mythical Games (who are building the Pudgy Penguins Game) also played a pivotal role in aligning the vision to strategically showcase Mubert and Polkadot’s synergy during these events. Despite having powerful tech, it's still seen as infrastructure-heavy and not connected to real-world, relatable experiences, and leveraging external communities like Pudgy Penguins.

There’s a gap in reaching Gen-Z audiences, creators, and music fans—groups that are already active in Web3 but rarely interact with Polkadot. Competing chains like Solana, SUI, and Polygon are more present in these spaces through events, partnerships, and media.

This proposal solves that by using Mubert’s signed partnership with Pudgy Penguins and upcoming event activations to position Polkadot at the center of high-visibility, creator-driven experiences—bridging a critical adoption gap in Asia and beyond.

Pudgy Penguins <> Mubert Protocol Events Tour, Powered by Polkadot

dAppForge is a project that aims to help developers build better decentralized applications (dApps), appchains, and parachains on the Polkadot network. They have completed three out of four milestones for their dAppForge V1.0. Here are the main points of their fourth and final milestone:

1. Improve the knowledge graphs for Solidity and Substrate, with a focus on Solidity and Foundry integration.
2. Integrate Polkadot Hub (AssetHub) documentation to help developers deploy Solidity smart contracts on AssetHub.
3. Benchmark Solidity performance using SolEval and compare it with other AI models.
4. Develop an API to allow developers to use the AI outside the plugin environment, like in bots for Discord/Telegram.

dAppForge's goal is to make it easier for developers to build on Polkadot and attract new developers to the ecosystem. They have a VS Code plugin that supports code generation and autocompletion for Solidity, Substrate, ink!, and Rust. This plugin helps developers understand the code better and build faster.

The dAppForge VS Code plug-in supports code generation and autocompletion for Solidity, Substrate, ink!, and Rust. It offers contextual insights into generated code, helping developers deepen their understanding and accelerate development. Each fine-tuned version increases performance and usability, enabling developers to build better and faster. This will lead to more applications being built on Polkadot.

We announced Epico and published a recorded demo right before EthDenver 2025 (late February), and spoke with several parachain teams during and after EthDenver for potential integration of Epico in their chains. We have received interest from 5 teams so far, 3 of which are listed below and the other two didn’t wish to be named in the proposal.

One of the largest barriers to mainstream adoption for Polkadot-based chains has been the unfamiliarity users face when interacting with Substrate-native accounts and wallets. The majority of crypto users today, especially those coming from Ethereum and EVM-compatible ecosystems, rely on MetaMask and other Ethereum-centric wallets as their default gateway into Web3.

Epico directly addresses this challenge by enabling users to sign and send transactions using their existing Ethereum wallets like MetaMask to Polkadot SDK chains, without needing to install snaps (plugins) or understand new account formats.

## What Epico Enables

* MetaMask and Ethereum Wallet Support: With Epico, any Polkadot SDK chain that integrates the solution will allow users to connect using their Ethereum accounts and sign transactions via MetaMask and other Ethereum wallets — just as they would on any EVM chain.
* Familiar UX for New Users: Users will no longer need to manage separate Polkadot-specific accounts or learn new address formats. A single Ethereum wallet address can now interact with both Ethereum and Polkadot-based applications on chains that adopt Epico.
* Frictionless Onboarding: Whether a user is exploring DeFi, NFTs, games, or decentralized identity apps on Polkadot, Epico allows them to skip the typical onboarding hurdles like creating new wallets, backing up new seed phrases, or converting assets via bridges.

## Epico Limitations

\[UPDATE]: **In light of [Polkadot SDK PR 8757](https://github.com/paritytech/polkadot-sdk/pull/8757), Substrate accounts can be deterministically represented as Ethereum addresses. As a result, Epico’s previous limitation of working only with native Ethereum accounts no longer applies.**

In its current form, Epico focuses on enabling seamless interaction between MetaMask (and other Ethereum-compatible wallets) and Substrate-based chains. This is achieved by integrating chains that natively support Ethereum-style accounts (such as Mythos).

However, chains that exclusively use Substrate’s account format (AccountId32) do not yet benefit from Epico. To address this limitation, we’ve been actively exploring solutions that would allow Substrate chains to support Ethereum accounts while maintaining full backward compatibility with their existing native account systems.

One approach involves leveraging Ethereum accounts as proxies for Substrate accounts — a mechanism we have already successfully demonstrated in our [smart accounts project, Otro](https://blog.blockdeep.io/introducing-otro-substrate-smart-accounts-ff56179f2f10).

## Ecosystem Impact and RoI

Epico is built with one clear goal: to remove the invisible walls between the Polkadot and Ethereum ecosystems from the user's perspective.

By allowing users to access Polkadot-based chains and applications directly through MetaMask and other Ethereum-compatible wallets, Epico will:

* Make Polkadot-based apps immediately accessible to the largest wallet user base in the blockchain ecosystem.
* Reduce the learning curve and eliminate the need for new wallets, boosting adoption of both new and existing dApps built on Polkadot SDK.
* Encourage broader user engagement in the Polkadot ecosystem by removing the need for wallet switching.

### Potential RoI

Epico is focused on improving user experience by enabling access to Polkadot-based apps using wallets people already use. [MetaMask alone has over 30 million monthly active users (as on Jan 2024)](https://blockworks.co/news/metamask-monthly-active-users-blockaid). With Epico, a good part, if not all, of those users will be able to use their Ethereum wallets to interact with Polkadot chains, without installing new tools or learning new formats.

This can lead to:

* More users trying and staying with apps built on Polkadot.
* Easier onboarding for dApps and better conversion from marketing efforts.
* Better cross-ecosystem liquidity and network effects.

Our strategy includes two parts:

* Build a reliable, well-documented tool that is easy to integrate.
* Work closely with parachains and dApp developers to promote real-world use cases and adoption.

Our goal is not just to publish code, but to enable meaningful adoption that brings more users and activity into the Polkadot ecosystem.

## Proposed Funding Model

Our proposal differs slightly from most others seeking prospective or retrospective funding. Epico was built over the course of several months — from initial analysis and design to development and testing. It has been an iterative journey, during which we explored multiple approaches before arriving at a solution that truly works.

Once the technical work was complete, we began evaluating potential ways to sustain and distribute Epico. One option was to adopt a closed-source, per-integration licensing model, allowing teams building on Substrate to purchase access. The alternative was to open-source the project and rely on retrospective funding.

The first path would require significant time spent on sales cycles, which we felt would divert our focus away from what we do best — building and improving the technology. The second path risked turning the project into an unmaintained code dump if retrospective funding didn’t materialize, which would ultimately not result in a useful solution.

Instead, we’ve chosen a middle-ground approach: one that allows us to deliver polished, high-quality code while ensuring support and maintenance. We are committed to open-sourcing Epico under the Apache 2.0 license upon completion, giving the community full access to the codebase.

Upfront funding will enable us to finalize the remaining work: cleaning up the code, writing comprehensive documentation, conducting peer reviews, and ensuring alignment with ecosystem standards. This ensures the project will be released in a state that is truly useful, reliable, and maintainable from day one.

We believe open-sourcing without proper funding risks leaving behind incomplete or poorly documented code, which can create more confusion than value for the ecosystem. Our goal is to avoid that by releasing a professional, well-supported open-source project — not just publishing a code dump.

## Scope of Work

* Completion of Epico core features. Open-sourcing of the entire codebase.
* Documentation, tutorials, and integration guides to streamline adoption by parachain and solo chain teams.
* Fully functional demo with Epico integration and a demo UI for anyone to try it out.
* Technical support/advisory for the first 3 months (after open sourcing) to any team who intends to integrate Epico in their chain.
* Maintenance and update to latest Polkadot SDK quarterly releases for at least 6 months. 

## Out of Scope

* Security audits are out of scope of this proposal. However, we will approach PAL for audits, or may create another proposal for that if needed.
* Development effort for integration with specific chains is out of scope, however we commit to providing technical support for integration as mentioned in the scope section above.

## Budget

This section outlines the scope of work completed, remaining tasks, and projected support requirements for the Epico project, along with associated costs.

### Time and Resources

So far, we’ve already spent \~185 person-days (roughly **1.5 FTE** for **\~5 months**) of effort on the tasks detailed in the section below. The FTE working on Epico are **senior Rust engineers** with experience on Substrate and Ethereum both. In addition, there was some oversight and architecture effort from a team lead/manager, and some PM effort for coordination.

### Tasks Completed

* Detailed analysis of all standard Eth RPCs.
* Analysis of API calls made by MetaMask.
* Analysis of Frontier project and identification of reusable components for Ethereum signatures support.
* Designing Epico on-chain and off-chain (node side) components.
* Designing of Epico DApp side components (JavaScript snippets).
* Solving efficient storage for transaction receipts. This was a heavy design effort considering Substrate does not have transaction receipts by design.
* Detailed analysis of Ethereum Gas and Substrate Weights, and a conversion mechanism for RPC APIs. This required quite a bit of trial and error to find the right conversion ratio. * Development and in-depth testing of all components:
 * RPC implementation
 * Gas conversion
 * Transaction wrapper
 * Signature verification

* Integration with parachain and solochain node templates.
* Reorganizing and packaging rust code into easily usable crates.
* Building an end to end demo for users to click through and try.

Epico: Ethereum Wallet Compatibility for Polkadot SDK Chains

N3MUS is a Web3-native tournament platform that helps game studios run competitive on-chain tournaments with real rewards and transparent score verification. It is designed for both Web2 and Web3 games and offers a plug-and-play infrastructure. N3MUS allows players to earn points by completing in-game, on-chain, and social quests, which power dynamic leaderboards.

N3MUS is already live on Moonbeam and has seen explosive growth, with over 255,000 gameplays and 53 tournaments with 7,600+ unique players. They have integrated games like Pinkdrop, WeGainst, Data2073, Zoombies, The Great Escape, and Olderfall, with more incoming like Nitro Nation, Evrloot, Chess on Chain, and Flappywud. N3MUS has also partnered with major esports organizations like Flamengo.

N3MUS is applying for a 25,000 DOT grant to fund community incentives, integrate with Polkadot, onboard games, host tournaments, and launch flagship tournaments with professional esports organizations. They plan to bring thousands of new users to the Polkadot ecosystem while offering real utility and measurable value to games.

To measure the success of the tournaments and ecosystem growth, N3MUS will track unique players, gameplay sessions, average session length, social media metrics, tournament health, on-chain activity, and studio and ecosystem growth.

Beyond the grant period, N3MUS plans to ensure long-term sustainability through studio partnerships, B2B funnels, value for blockchain, gamer-facing revenue models, and peer-to-peer wagering and leaderboard battles.

### **🎓 How We Will Use the Grant**

We are applying for a 25.000 DOT grant, which will be used to:

* Fund Community Incentives: 75% of the grant will be allocated directly to tournament prize pools, fueling real user participation and ecosystem growth. This approach supports both the community and game studios, resulting in increased on-chain transactions, more active wallets, and serving as a powerful marketing engine, because in gaming, entertainment is the best marketing.
* Integrate with Polkadot: We will deploy smart contracts on Polkadot AssetHub (once live), making all gameplay and leaderboard results verifiable on-chain. Next to that, we are a chain agnostic platform, therefore we will also expand to other parachains within the ecosystem.
* Onboard Games: Our goal is to onboard at LEAST 15+ games from across the Polkadot ecosystem, including native and external Web2 titles.
* Host 150+ tournaments over the grant period (with prize pools ranging from 60 DOT to 300 DOT) over a period of 6-12 months.
* Launch flagship tournaments with professional esports orgs to drive visibility
* Fully open-source our smart contracts, Docker setup, and SDKs under the Apache2 license

N3MUS will bring thousands of new users to the Polkadot ecosystem while offering real utility and measurable value to games. We’re building the competitive layer that turns Polkadot into the home for Web3 gaming.

DotMemo is a decentralized, permissionless application built natively on Polkadot & Kusama Asset Hub that enables users to create and collect digital proof of attendance memories as NFTs. Since our initial retroactive funding (#[2511](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/post/2511)), DotMemo has become the premier on-chain memory solution for the Polkadot ecosystem.

DotMemo v2: Enhanced Features for On-Chain Event Memories on Polkadot

EasyA, a Web3 education app, has successfully completed Milestone 2 in their #360DaysOfPolkadot campaign, which aimed to educate and engage developers in the Polkadot ecosystem. They partnered with Parity and Web3 Foundation to update Polkadot content in their app and hosted hackathons at Harvard and London. The campaign inspired an a16z-backed startup, Axal, to build on Polkadot. Key highlights include:

- Over 1 million users on the EasyA app
- 700 developers participated in hackathons
- 126 projects were launched
- 137,000 developers started the in-app crash course
- Social media impressions reached over 14 million

The campaign also met or exceeded all key performance indicators, including the number of developers starting and completing the crash course, hackathon attendees, and hackathon projects. EasyA is now focusing on supporting developers to continue building on Polkadot and is working with the ecosystem to set up Polkadot Fast-Grants for funding.

Our #360DaysOfPolkadot has been our most successful Polkadot campaign ever. We worked closely with Parity and Web3 Foundation to create brand new, updated Polkadot content in the EasyA app, and provide the keynote workshop and lectures at our Harvard and London hackathons. 

In fact, our work has been so successful that we’ve already inspired an a16z-backed startup ([Axal](https://www.ax.al/)) to build on Polkadot (we’ve now introduced them to Web3 Foundation, and discussions are now in progress)! We have almost too many awesome successes to talk about, so we’ve done our best to summarise the key highlights here.

**Executive Summary:**

For anyone new to [EasyA](http://easya.io/) (also known as Duolingo for blockchain), we are the biggest Web3 education app, with over 1 million users. We have been strong believers in the Polkadot ecosystem for many years, and first started educating our community on Polkadot after Parity invited us to host [our inaugural EasyA x Polkadot hackathon in London in 2022](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/treasury/132). 

Since then, we have continued working to educate the community on Polkadot, both via the EasyA app and also through our flagship in-person hackathons at Harvard and in London. These hackathons have now become world-famous, having run for 3 years in a row now. We have even started to gain a foothold for Polkadot within Harvard, and were recently invited to Harvard Law School’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society to discuss further collaboration. We are in active discussions with them, as we look to bring the best and brightest brains as well as top academic leaders into the Polkadot ecosystem.

Each year, we have educated record numbers of developers about Polkadot, and this year was another landmark year. For the first time ever, we were able to secure hosting our Polkadot hackathon right alongside the world-famous Harvard Blockchain Conference. This ended up being a masterstroke. Countless top VCs were able to see hundreds of new builders coming to the Polkadot ecosystem via our hackathon, and chat with them about why they were so excited about Polkadot. At Harvard alone, this included star VCs like [Cosmo Jiang](https://www.linkedin.com/in/cosmojiang/) (General Partner at Pantera), [Anand Iyer](https://www.linkedin.com/in/anandiyer/) (Partner at Lightspeed) and [Omar Kanji](https://www.linkedin.com/in/omar-kanji-cfa-334bb686/) (Partner at Dragonfly). In London, we leveraged our connections to invite [Xiao-Xiao Zhu](https://www.linkedin.com/in/xiao-xiao-j-zhu-12078730/), Partner at KKR and co-lead of KKR’s blockchain and digital assets taskforce, to judge the hackathon. KKR is the world’s largest asset manager, with almost a trillion dollars in assets under management. We put Polkadot back on the map for these capital allocators, and this wasn’t just them seeing some tweet in passing - this was all in-person, diving into the Polkadot ecosystem for hours and hours.

Great minds attract great minds, and the world’s best startup founders also came to see what was being built by the next generation in Web3. This included previous EasyA hackathon winners, team [Axal](https://www.ax.al/), who have since been backed by a16z. We inspired them to look into Polkadot more, and we have now connected them with the Web3 Foundation. This is just one example of #360DaysOfPolkadot is driving real results.

Another awesome example is the huge activity we’re driving. Parity shared with us that our work had a massive impact on increasing development activity on Polkadot Westend Hub, which was reflected in their own internal data analysis. Just look at this chart - it went totally vertical!

EasyA hackathons are clearly not just everyday hackathons. They are transformational for the ecosystem. They attract the best builders in the world to launch the new dApps which are the lifeblood of Polkadot, but they are also a powerful marketing tool. They show VCs, private equity, family offices and users (and even as explained below politicians!) that Polkadot is alive and thriving. 

And the secret sauce of this all? The EasyA app. In the run-up to our in-person hackathons, our team put in a colossal effort to update the Polkadot content in the EasyA app from scratch, working closely with Web3 Foundation and Parity. The results speak for themselves:

* 126 projects launched 
* 137,000 total developers starting the in-app crash course

**Winning projects**

Our judges were blown away by the projects which launched at our two in-person hackathons. There were far more top projects than we could have allocated prizes for, so Radha from Web3 Foundation has been working to set up the retroactive grants for builders as an additional funding opportunity for them. 

Founders flew in from all over the globe, and came from world-class companies such as Google Deepmind, Gemini and Jefferies, as well as top universities like MIT, Harvard, Yale, Columbia and so many more. We even had a serial entrepreneur who had previously founded a FinTech company which went public at a $100m valuation.

These builders are hungry to make their mark and continue building on Polkadot. They’ve been applying for the Polkadot Fast-Grants, and the first ones have already now been successfully approved!

**Milestone 2 Requested Allocation Breakdown Summary (Retroactive Funding)**

Our proposal for #360DaysOfPolkadot split our costs into two phases. Milestone 1 (approved [here](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/referenda/1314)) covered the creation, technical implementation and distribution of the in-app content, as well as the venue/logistics deposits. Milestone 2 (this milestone) is retroactive funding to cover the final costs of the in-person hackathons, prize money and educational campaign. This is important to note, since this funding is required for distributing the travel scholarships and prize money to builders, so they can continue building their awesome projects.

This retroactive funding after the successful completion of our proposal reflects EasyA’s deep respect for the Polkadot treasury and OpenGov. Rather than the community needing to take any risk with EasyA, we take on the responsibility ourselves of delivering on the KPIs and targets which we set out for the community originally.

**What’s next**

EasyA has been a core part of the Polkadot ecosystem since 2022. We’ve been through the different cycles together, and shared its ups and downs as we build this resilient and decentralised network. We share Polkadot’s long-term vision, and as such always plan well beyond the next milestone or hackathon. 

As part of this long-term roadmap, we’re actively working on bringing developers to Polkadot Hub. We’ve already started this with #360DaysOfPolkadot, with the incredible builders we’ve attracted. However, we also need to support them with continuing to build. This is why we worked tirelessly with the ecosystem to set up the [Polkadot Fast-Grants](https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/bounty/63) and get developers fast funding, as well as worked closely with the Web3 Foundation to funnel the best projects for their fast-track grants. Both avenues have already started to show results. Last year’s EasyA x Polkadot hackathon project [Intercaster](https://x.com/easya_app/status/1815687091352719764) was funded by the Web3 Foundation, and the first batch of projects have already now been approved for the Polkadot Fast-Grants.

We’re also working with other players in the ecosystem to support them as much as possible. For example, at Consensus Toronto we’re supporting WebZero with bringing developers to their Polkadot hacker house, as well as getting them building on Polkadot at the in-person hackathon. We are highly engaged within the Polkadot community well beyond the scope of #360DaysOfPolkadot, and came in-person to ETH Denver to help recruit builders at the Polkadot booth, as well as presented our vision for the future on-stage with Polkadot co-founder Rob Habermeier.

There’s still lots of work to be done, and we’ve been collecting feedback non-stop from builders to get smart contracts on Polkadot Hub ready for prime-time, including sharing this directly with Parity and Web3 Foundation. However, the great news is that the pieces are all finally coming together for Polkadot’s renaissance.

Further down on the roadmap, JAM is of course coming up and we are supporting as much as we can while the details get fleshed out. We caught up with Gavin Wood recently at Stanford, who shared with us how EasyA could support with scouting JAM implementers. We already know that one EasyA gigabrain is working on his implementation, and we expect more to come soon.

In summary, #360DaysOfPolkadot has been an incredible success. The EasyA app has educated builders on Polkadot at scale, our hackathons have brought the best in the world to launch (and impressed VCs), and our social media has got the attention of the world. We’re at the ground level, building the Polkadot ecosystem from the ground up, as part of the mission we’re all on.

Milestone 2: EasyA x Polkadot: In-person hackathons and in-app Polkadot 2.0 crash course (#360DaysOfPolkadot)

RISC-V is gaining popularity in the decentralized internet, and Polkadot is already using it for its virtual machines. The first line of smart home devices built on RISC-V and integrated with Polkadot is being launched, with real hardware products and open-source firmware available on GitHub. A public kick-start campaign on IndieGoGo will test market interest in these web3-native, open-source, user-first solutions.

The campaign will launch three interconnected devices:
1. Altruist: an air quality sensor that publishes data to a decentralized map.
2. DevBoard Hikikomori: a developer-focused micro-controller dev board built on RISC-V, designed for engineers from both embedded and Web3 worlds.
3. RISC-V Smart Home Server: a server that unites open hardware, open connectivity, and open cloud, enabling control over smart devices without centralized cloud platforms.

The proposed budget includes funds for the Robonomics Creative Team, advertising and outreach, influencer engagement, and an independent code audit. The campaign aims to demonstrate a future rooted in transparency, decentralization, and open technology, and to lay the foundation for a long-term open ecosystem of devices, tools, and services.

## Chapter 1 — Why This Matters

RISC-V is becoming the architecture of the year. From hardware engineers to leading blockchain networks, more and more participants in the decentralized internet are turning to open standards. While Ethereum is only beginning to discuss transitioning to RISC-V for its virtual machines, in Polkadot this future is already taking shape.

We invite the community to support [the launch of the first line of smart home devices built on RISC-V and integrated with Polkadot](https://x.com/AIRA_Robonomics/status/1920452034186154483).

These are not concepts or mockups — they are real hardware products with open-source firmware, [published on GitHub](https://github.com/airalab/hardware). These devices are already functional and ready to become part of an ecosystem where users own their data, and decentralization is a tangible principle.

To bring this line to market, we’re preparing a public kick-start campaign on IndieGoGo. This is not just about promotion — it’s a way to test market interest in web3-native, open-source, user-first solutions. We’re asking for support in making a strategic leap: to give the world a real alternative in the smart home space, built on open technologies and secured by the Polkadot network.

Our team has been active in the Polkadot ecosystem since 2019 and has invested years of engineering work into creating these devices. We’re not proposing an idea — we’re delivering results.

## Chapter 2 — The Campaign Design

We are structuring this summer’s kick-start campaign as a progressive launch of three interconnected devices. Each one plays a distinct role in building the foundation of a real, open, user-owned smart home.

*Phase 1 —* Altruist: just an air quality sensor.\*\* Our opening product is Altruist — a clean, reliable sensor that monitors air quality and publishes data to a decentralized map. It’s tested, ready, and understandable to a wide audience. With ALTRUIST, we begin by showing what open hardware and transparent data can look like in practice.

*Phase 2 — DevBoard Hikikomori:* an educational bridge. The second step in our campaign is a developer-focused  micro-controller dev board built on RISC-V. It includes a screen, a sensor, and firmware preloaded to interact with Polkadot. It’s designed for engineers from both the embedded and Web3 worlds, helping them meet in the middle. Hikikomori DevBoard enables developers to explore secure telemetry, decentralized logic, and the principles of trustworthy IoT design.

Phase 3 — RISC-V Smart Home Server: the core of an Open Source home. Our RISC-V–based server is the first device to unite all three essential layers of modern smart home infrastructure: open hardware, open connectivity, and open cloud. It’s a fully functional, physical product installed at home, enabling control over a wide range of smart devices — including popular brands like IKEA — without relying on centralized cloud platforms. We believe this is the right moment — for both Polkadot and for us — to launch such a product. It’s not just the centerpiece of our summer kick-starter campaign. It’s the first step toward a future where smart homes can be built entirely on open foundations, giving control back to the user and creating room for a truly decentralized hardware ecosystem.

Following the successful launch and adoption of the RISC-V smart home server connected to Polkadot, we envision opening an entirely new direction for the community: building devices and services tailored for owners of these servers. ## Chapter 3 — Budget Overview

Our proposed budget is structured around four key components, each critical to ensuring the campaign's success and long-term impact:

1. *Robonomics Creative Team.* This team has been responsible for all identity about the project through websites like [robonomics.network](http://robonomics.network), [wiki.robonomics.network](http://wiki.robonomics.network), and [robonomics.academy](http://robonomics.academy), as well as creating high-quality educational videos, infographics, and maintaining open-source repositories for robonomics dapp. We propose allocating $45,000 to bring this team of five professionals on full-time over the summer to produce promotional videos, product visuals, 3D casing designs, UI/UX, and content for the devices.
2. *Advertising and Outreach.* To bring attention to our IndieGoGo campaign, we plan to reach 100,000 people who are familiar with crowdfunding and interested in smart home innovation. At an average cost of $0.50 per click, we estimate a $50,000 advertising budget. Additionally, we expect a 10–20% fee ($5,000–$10,000) for professional ad campaign management, bringing the total for this category to $55,000–$60,000.
3. *Influencer Engagement.* We plan to collaborate with trusted voices in the tech and smart home space. Influencers with 100,000–500,000 followers typically charge $5,000–$20,000 per review. We propose a dedicated $20,000 budget for reviews and features that can amplify our reach and credibility among target audiences.
4. *Independent Code Audit.* In a rare move for consumer IoT, we will commission an external security audit of our devices firmware and codebase. Estimated at $25,000, this audit will validate the quality and safety of our 3 open-source devices and set a new benchmark for transparency in smart home technology.

After consulting W3F and some community members, we have therefore decided to present a retroactive funding proposal for the past 4 months (January - April).

PolkaBiz Retroactive Treasury Request January - April 2025

SAGE, or Substrate Asset Game Engine, is a proposal by Rosťa aimed at benefiting the Polkadot ecosystem, particularly for junior developers and game developers. The main goal is to improve tooling for .net development in Polkadot, which is used by many projects like Xcavate, Ajuna, and PlutoFramework. Supporting SAGE will help these projects by allowing teams to focus more on their final products and less on low-level details.

Cedric, the main developer behind SAGE and his company Ajuna, have a proven track record of developing open-source tooling for the .net ecosystem and creating advanced on-chain games. Their work is well-maintained and has been beneficial for the community, as seen in the quick responses to GitHub issues and contributions from other developers.

SAGE has already shown its effectiveness in hackathons, with projects using Substrate.Net.Api winning major prizes. The .net tooling developed by Cedric and Ajuna is powerful and easy to use, which is crucial for the success of projects relying on it.

Marketing for SAGE is not necessary, as developers will naturally find and use the tooling if it is useful for their C# applications secured by Polkadot. SAGE aims to provide a full-featured solution for game developers who may not be familiar with blockchain technology.

Projects like Xcavate, Ajuna, PlutoFramework... (Those are only open-sourced projects that I know of. There are certainly many more closed-sourced ones too)

By supporting this proposal, you will help all of these projects by improving the tooling they use. Teams will spend less time figuring out low-level shits and they will have more time to focus on the final product. This has been proven multiple times at hackathons over the past 2 years.

## Proven team and proven tooling

Cedric (The main developer behind SAGE) and his company Ajuna have proven themselves with the development of **incredible open-sourced** tooling for .net ecosystem and also with the development of most technically advanced fully on-chain games.

Unlike many other teams, Cedric and Ajuna have followed the web3 core principles and made all of their work open-sourced. This was also beneficial for them, because many developers that used these tools have also contributed back!

The help from Cedric and everyone maintaining always immediate. Take a look at the [github issues](https://github.com/ajuna-network/Substrate.NET.API/issues?q=is%3Aissue) other dev's made and notice that the responses came just a few hours after the issue was made. Many times Cedric stepped up and coded his own solution of the problem, like in [this issue](https://github.com/ajuna-network/Substrate.NET.API/issues/44) and [this issue](https://github.com/ajuna-network/Substrate.NET.API/issues/101).

One of the most important things for toolings is not only to have them, but also having them maintained. Polkadot is well known for it's forkless upgrades, however frequent updates also require frequent maintenance of tools. Cedric and Ajuna also have not disappointed and delivered all of the updates needed on time.

Elegance of the .net tooling developed by Cedric and Ajuna could be seen on Hackathons. Over the past 2 years, there has **always** been at least 1 project which used Substrate.Net.Api and won the main prize. Here is a list of the hackathons and prizes won:

This would not have been possible if the tooling would not been so effective and simple to use. In fact, it is very powerful.

## No need for marketing

Developers are clever and very mindful of their time. If they want to build a c# application that is secured by Polkadot, they will use google/chatgpt and search what are the existing options for developing a c#/unity application/game with Polkadot. They will easily find Polkadot Unity SDK, Substrate.Net.Api, Substrate.Net.Toolchain... on the first page of google search. All of them are well documented, with a lot of working examples. Developers will find what they need just because it is very useful to them.

Personally, if the tooling would not have been there, I would probably give up and move on to a different ecosystem/different projects.

Also, you can not market something you do not have. It is hard to say that development on Polkadot is easy when in reality it is not. SAGE tries to address this by developing a full-featured solution for game developers that are not really familiar with the inner workings of blockchains.

## Value brought

I will not try to persuade anyone into thinking that the value is large. It probably is not. However, it is proportional with the amount requested.

Cedric is asking for \~0.0014% (as of time of writing) of the treasury funds and I think the impact for the ecosystem is already reaching >1% (Projects that **rely** on using Substrate.Net.Api for their parachain secured on Polkadot) and the potential for growth is even larger.
