KAGOME – the C++ implementation of Polkadot Host milestone 3

The Polkadot Ecology Research Institute made a proposal on OpenGov, but due to a lack of experience, they followed the wrong process and ended up with 500 DOT locked in an incorrect proposal. They later applied for the proposal using the correct method, and it was approved. They are now asking for a refund of the 500 DOT deposit, just as the community has done in similar cases. The proposal aims to refund the 500 DOT to the Polkadot Ecology Research Institute.

PROPOSAL -  FHE-WASM Research and Development for the Polkadot Ecosystem

Galaniprojects GmbH, a Berlin-based company, has proposed developing a user-friendly interface for interacting with Polkadot Bounties. This interface aims to simplify processes for curators, proposers, and beneficiaries, making it easier for non-technical users to manage bounties. The company is seeking funding for the first milestone of the project and plans to request additional funds for the second milestone after completing the first. ### Context of the proposal

This proposal details the development of a user-friendly interface to interact with Polkadot Bounties without the need to use the developer oriented polkadot.js apps. The interface will be useful for curators, proposers and beneficiaries, simplifying all processes and actions necessary for the user. The idea was formed after hearing complaints from curators, that it has been difficult to navigate and properly manage their bounties, because the currently available tools are not created with non-technical users in mind.

\*Here **wallet creation = new user.** We are able to make sure the wallets are not coming from bots since we are using a tracking/data tool called \*\*Adjust. \*\*All the events that we will create with adjust and the fact that we have implemented the \*\*Adjust signature \*\*on all our games, an **anti-fraud tool**, help us to guarantee that those users are real. We are using that tool for a long time on our apps to prevent any fraud from our user acquisition channel.

**Player Engagement:** The TapNation team will actively engage with their initial user base, gather feedback, and make necessary improvements to the solution. The aim is to provide a high-quality gaming experience with cryptocurrency rewards.

It was started by graduates of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy who had trouble finding jobs after graduation. The portal has a website where developers can find projects to work on and get rewards for their contributions.

The Kudos Portal wants to add new features to make it better, like project homepages, contributor profiles, personalized notifications, a community wishlist, and metrics pages. They also want to work with project teams to make it easier for new contributors to start working on projects.

The team behind Kudos Portal has experience in software development and has won awards in Polkadot hackathons. They are asking for $128,000 to help them develop the Kudos Portal for the next year.

We will be opening a treasury proposal in the coming days requesting support for the future development of the Kudos Portal. We would love to get some feedback from the community regarding our ideas.

### Context

The motivation for the Kudos Portal stemmed from a shared challenge encountered as successful graduates of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy in Berkeley. Despite being equipped with specialised skills in Polkadot technologies, we, along with many fellow alumni, found it difficult to immediately secure roles within the ecosystem, mainly due to the global tech hiring slowdown. Unfortunately, the lack of open roles in the Polkadot space at the time led to many skilled individuals accepting roles in other blockchain ecosystems or Web2 industries. One potential path to getting hired into the ecosystem is via contributing to the open source repositories with the hope of providing value and getting noticed. However, the difficulty with this method came into sharp focus during an alumni catch up at the sub0 Polkadot Developer Conference in Lisbon. Here we discussed the daunting task of navigating the Polkadot ecosystem to find suitable projects that aligned with our interests and skill levels. With over [25 000 repositories](https://www.developerreport.com/ecosystems/polkadot) in the Polkadot ecosystem, efficiently locating and contributing to relevant open issues seemed nearly impossible.

In response, we developed the initial version of the Kudos Portal (available at [morekudos.com](http://morekudos.com)), which offers:

**Unified Repository Access**: Aggregating all ecosystem repositories into a single platform, simplifying the discovery process for developers.

**Project Categorisation**: Allowing users to filter projects by interests, categories, and programming languages to find opportunities that best match their skill set and passions.

While the alpha version of the Kudos Portal has started addressing the key challenges of navigation and engagement within the Polkadot ecosystem, there is a substantial need to broaden and deepen the solutions it offers.

**Competitive Landscape**

OnlyDust has made significant strides in improving the developer experience as it relates to open source contributions. They currently support over 200 projects from 5 ecosystems, Cosmos, Ethereum, Starknet, Optimism and Aptos. Regarding contribution incentives, OnlyDust currently distributes roughly $500K per week. We see an opportunity to improve on their centralised approach by leveraging the unique decentralised capabilities of the Polkadot platform, such as OpenGov, Asset Hub, and XCM, to create even more powerful tools for our community.

The lack of effective filtering and search tools means that developers often miss out on projects that could benefit from their unique skills and experiences. Similarly, opportunities to earn rewards are not easily discoverable, which could otherwise incentivize more sustained and impactful contributions.

The challenges extend to interpersonal connections within the ecosystem as well. There is a noticeable gap in opportunities for finding mentorship and guidance from more experienced developers, which is crucial for professional growth and effective contribution.

Project teams also face hurdles, primarily in attracting developers to build with their tools and platforms and in finding contributors for their open source projects. Gaining visibility among the vast developer community remains a persistent challenge, further exacerbating the difficulty in driving project progress and adoption.

Lastly, the community interaction within Polkadot is hindered by limited feedback mechanisms. Developers and users alike struggle to interact with projects in a meaningful way, whether it's providing feedback, requesting enhancements, or simply engaging in dialogue about future directions. This lack of robust interactive channels stifles community-driven development and the iterative improvement of projects based on user input.

This ensures developers have immediate access to points of contact, facilitating easier communication and faster integration into the project community.

Contributor profiles will offer a detailed view of individual developers' contribution metrics, active engagements, rewards earned, and displayed interests and skills. Profiles also indicate whether the developer is open to work, facilitating a more efficient matching process between projects seeking specific skills and developers looking for opportunities. This visibility will not only aid developers in showcasing their capabilities but also helps project teams in recruiting the right talent.

Through personalised notifications, the Kudos Portal will ensure that developers are promptly informed about new contribution opportunities that match their specific interests. This feature will minimise the time developers spend searching through irrelevant content, allowing them to focus more on making meaningful contributions directly aligned with their expertise and project preferences.

**Community Wishlist**

The Community Wishlist will serve as an ecosystem hub where community members can post, discuss, and upvote feature requests and project ideas. This direct feedback mechanism will not only foster a collaborative community atmosphere but also guides developers and project teams on what features or improvements are most desired, helping prioritise development efforts that have community support and potential for treasury funding.

**Metrics Pages**

Metrics pages will provide real-time data on project and developer activity within the ecosystem. These pages will help track engagement levels, identify trends, and spotlight areas needing more developer support or resources. By offering insights into both project and individual contributions, these metrics empower developers and project teams with the data needed to make informed decisions and adjust strategies for better outcomes.

**Curated Issues**

Working collaboratively with project teams, the Kudos Portal will facilitate the curation of high-quality, well-documented issues, making it easier for new contributors to begin making impactful contributions. This approach not only lowers the barrier for entry by clarifying expectations and reducing initial complexity but also enhances the overall quality of contributions across the ecosystem. **The Digital Asset landscape is quickly maturing and the appetite for exposure is steadily climbing throughout 2024. The emergence of crypto backed, traditional financial products grant access to an entirely new demographic of investors who previously did not have the technical aptitude or risk appetite for gaining exposure to spot crypto holdings.

Virtune presents a unique opportunity to expand investor interest in Polkadot by offering a direct, fully regulated, investible staked, spot backed ETP.

Nasdaq Stockholm is the largest stock exchange in the region and one of the largest stock exchanges in Europe that can also be accessed globally. This enables the Virtune products to be accessed by a large number of investors in multiple markets, an angle that will be incorporated to this campaign through various methods presented below.

**In order to reach the maximum number of prospects while also creating the most impact - we planned a multi-channel approach, which will consist of digital advertisements, IRL placements, select appearances and private seminars which will be held at the Virtune office.

**IRL**  
The IRL part of the advertising campaign will target an audience of working professionals, residents and travelers living, working and transiting within Sweden and eligible jurisdictions. The activations will be specifically targeted towards relevant areas of Stockholm Transit & City Center.

We have contacted 4 separate agencies to fulfill the requests of this large-scale campaign. Resources will be deployed to cover placements in the following areas:

EVENTS & APPEARANCES**  
Virtune will hold multiple in-person seminars at their head office, presenting the Polkadot ETP. The target will be to attract a minimum of 50 attendees for each event - consisting of private banking advisors and professionals from some of the largest banks in Sweden and the Nordics regions.

A member from within the Polkadot community will be scheduled to attend one or more of the Virtune events and present to the attendees the current happenings within the Polkadot network. This representative will be chosen by the Distractive Polkadot Marketing team.

Christopher Kock, CEO will present the Polkadot ETP during appearances scheduled on financial channels, placing extra emphasis on the product as a viable investment.

We are requesting a total of 89,945 DOT ($571,150 USD) at a price of $6.35 (MA 200 & BINANCE WEEKLY MA 100) to cover the following:

**We have decided to request DOT even though the new USDT / USDC option is available as we are comfortable operating with this tested & tried method at the moment.**

**TARGETS / KPI’s  
**The campaign is projected to attract 2830 new clients to invest in the Polkadot ETP, with an average starting investment of $1750 per investor.

By early 2025, we expect the campaign to achieve a ROI of $4.4M into the Polkadot ecosystem (via VIRDOT ETP) equivalent to approx 631K DOT tokens, based on the current DOT price of $6.97.

The above numbers are calculated based on Virtune's historical metrics from the past 11 months, during which more than 26,000 investors were organically reached.

Beyond the immediate results, this campaign is expected to create a ripple effect, attracting more investors to Polkadot over time and instilling interest from private firms & institutions from the Nordic regions

**VIRTUNE POLKADOT STAKED ETP - INFORMATION & FAQ**  
The Virtune Staked Polkadot ETP was listed on Nasdaq Stockholm OMX's regulated market on January 10, 2024. This product is fully backed by spot DOT tokens, which are securely stored with Virtune's custodian, Coinbase. The tokens are staked directly from cold storage, with the rewards continuously accruing to the product. This process enhances the ETP's performance, as investors receive these rewards.

Currently, the annual staking return for investors stands at 4% on top of Polkadot’s performance. This staking yield is due to our strategy of not staking all of our holdings, maintaining liquidity to ensure that investors can freely buy and sell the product at any time during market hours without any lockup period.  
  

**Why do investors prefer to invest in Polkadot through an ETP instead of using crypto exchanges?**  
The most significant advantage of investing in Polkadot through an ETP in Sweden is the ability to store it in an ISK account, where you pay a standard annual tax of 1.25% instead of the 30% capital gains tax. This benefit makes it a clear first choice for investors. Additionally, most investors prefer to hold their cryptocurrency investments in their traditional securities accounts, eliminating the need to declare transactions or use a separate cryptocurrency exchange or account.

The combination of these values make our product a very attractive investment and we plan to grow the demand of this product with the above mentioned strategy - which we believe will be a net positive spend for the Polkadot Network.

This project with Virtune marks our first collaboration with a regulated Digital Asset Manager - with a campaign directly focused on a 1:1 spot backed ETP.

Through this investment, the Polkadot Network will be exposed to major banks, market makers, trading platforms and regulatory bodies - all of which help the growth & attention of Polkadot as a leader in the space.

We have spent the past 3 months working directly with Virtune to outline the concepts & deliverables presented above. We fully support the endeavors herein put forth by Virtune to spark further adoption of digital assets in the Nordics, and more specifically, Polkadot.
