We have a plan for a NextGen Web3 Cybersecurity training on September 27-29th near Berlin, Germany. The goal is to have 51% women join the training to help more women be part of the growing blockchain security field. The training will be led by women security researchers and organized by SystAIn3r, who has experience with women-focused events.

We already have money for 50 people's food and housing during the training at CryptoCastle. This will help us find the best security researchers for our project. We will also talk about the training at the Web3 Summit in Berlin to get more people interested.

The training will help people learn about blockchain security and use special tools for the Polkadot ecosystem. This will make the Polkadot ecosystem more secure and help people work together on security.

At the Web3 Summit, we had a women-focused event with 48 people signing up. Many people agreed that our cybersecurity training is a good idea. We also helped with a well-being event and got more women involved in a hackathon.

I'm writing to share with you our treasury proposal for the upcoming NextGen Web3 Cybersecurity training to take place September 27-29th in person, close to Berlin, Germany. The graduates will then practice their skills selected projects, and share their results in November in Berlin, at the Parity office.

What is unique about this proposal?

We aim at 51% women participation in the training, setting a strong precedent for the ecosystem's inclusion efforts. Blockchain security is gaining more and more relevance as the honey pots grow bigger every day. If we care about closing the gender equity gap, we should invite those identified as women to join parts of the ecosystem that are systemically relevant, and growing.

The training is designed by women security researchers from Security Research Labs, who are already supporting parachains teams with security audits, and organized by SystAIn3r, who have in the past already organized Web3 Hackathons for women, retreats and conferences with majority of participants women. The founder of SystAIn3r has supported the Brooklyn Polkadot HackerHouse 2022, the Well-Being Lounge at Sub0 Lisbon, and founded DLT Talents, Europe's largest blockchain education program for women.

What is more is that funding for Accommodation, Catering, Housing for up to 50 Pax have already been secured for the 3 days 2 nights training in the CryptoCastle, which is destined to host crypto-native events.

This means that upon successful funding of this project, we can go all in to recruit the best current and future security researchers for the ecosystem!

We will also participate in the Web3 Summit in Berlin August 19-21 to spread more awareness about this training to develop the whitehat hacker's mindset! (Update: Mission accomplished, August 22, 2024)

By creating training materials, SRLabs will provide participants with insights into these core features and the associated security challenges. This ensures that the knowledge imparted is both relevant and applicable to real-world scenarios within the Polkadot ecosystem.  
  
**Building a Strong Foundation of Knowledge:** The training is designed to present complex security concepts and system intricacies in an understandable manner, enabling participants to build upon this foundational knowledge. By demystifying the technologies specific to Polkadot, the training will empower developers, auditors, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions that enhance the security and robustness of the projects they are involved in.  
  
**Hands-On Experience with Ecosystem-Specific Tools:** A significant component of the training will be the technical exercises, which will include the use of open-source tools developed specifically for auditing projects within the Polkadot ecosystem. For example, participants will gain practical experience with tools like the substrate-runtime-fuzzer, a fuzz testing tool developed by SRLabs, and parathreat, a wargame based on the Polkadot SDK developed by Parity Security. By engaging with these tools, participants will not only learn how to identify and address security vulnerabilities but also contribute to the ongoing improvement of these resources.

**Enhancing Security Practices Across the Ecosystem:** The training will equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement best practices in blockchain security, ultimately leading to a more secure and resilient Polkadot ecosystem. During Web3 Summit Berlin, we hosted a women-focussed event, together with 5 community partners which we invited to join our event (DLT Talents Alumni, H.E.R. Dao, Women of Polkadot, Crypto Girls Club, Si<3>. We totaled 48 sign-ups, and show-up rate of 80%! Many of the attendees, including women and non-women members of Parity, confirmed that our planned cybersecurity training makes sense.   
  
In addition, we also helped to offer a well-being initiative (which was rejected by events bounty, nevertheless, team kept pushing), and which then transformed into a Studio1 (Main Stage) opening ceremony in Day 3 of the summit — the Quantum Healing Gong in the iconic venue with dope accoustics.   
  
Finally, our team onboarded a number of women hackers to the WebZero parallel hackathon with dev background. Ourselves, we participated also in the hackathon with a project for catalyzing learning journey into Web3! We had 4 first-time hackers in the team. Unfortunately, we didn't make the Top4 cut, however, we are very happy to have pushed continuous onboarding of women into the "hacker" ecosystem. Without us, they would not have participated at all!

Inspired by the simplicity of the Web3 Summit in design & branding, we will also strip down on our plans for media, marketing, merchandise and keep it to the minimum needed for building community engagement and a meaningful experience.

Founders must articulate their value proposition, get early product traction, discover product market fit, etc. These skills often need to be improved in most startup teams.

That's why Mario and Christian (both founders and PBA Alumni) introduced PolkaBiz, a program approved by the community under Referendum 657. This MVP program, running from April to August 2024, aims to prepare founders to present their fine-tuned ideas to investors. The program's climax was a matchmaking event between founders and investors on July 11th, serving as a side event to Decoded.

Although we need to make a few minor adjustments here and there, we are extremely satisfied with the results achieved so far.

-   We collaborated strongly with the PBA. At the time of the first proposal, there was no plan to start a side project for technical founders, nor did we anticipate flying to Singapore.
-   We conducted an Elevator Pitch 101 session with Parity at Decoded and organized a pitching session with PBA and Brinc. Our logo was visible during the keynote session in Brussels, and we were regularly mentioned positively on Twitter. In short, over the past 5 months, PolkaBiz has made a difference…

This new proposal aims to build on our program's success and request funding for the next 4 months (September-December 2024). From the first proposal, we learned what works well (such as the collaboration with the PBA or the founder-investor matchmaking event), but we aim to keep evolving. Therefore, we have added 3 new initiatives we want to try out in addition to what was already a success in our first edition.

-   We will add business-related video content to our website, freely accessible to everyone.
-   We will expand the Pitch & Mentor program beyond onsite applications and offer it online for the first time.
-   We will explore the impact of events in this new proposal. The goal is to generate more exposure for startups/teams building on Polkadot and attract new investors and founders into the ecosystem. Firstly, this means collecting data through a portal from companies building on Polkadot - we will call this our founders-community. Secondly, we want to attract new investors at these events, primarily for our PolkaBiz matchmaking events. This way, investors can get acquainted with the new initiatives within Polkadot.

# Conclusion 

We kindly request the Polkadot community's support for this top-up to ensure the successful completion of our comprehensive advertising campaign. This additional funding will allow us to maintain the campaign's intended scale and effectiveness through its planned end date, ultimately benefiting the entire Polkadot ecosystem. 

A note regarding the previous comment regarding not requesting top-ups.\* 

At the time the note regarding top-ups, it was to signal a sign of confidence Brave has in Polkadot and our dedication to the community on finding market fit. The price of DOT had gone from (EMA7): $9.762 at the time of the proposal to around $6. At $6, we could still deliver to the proposal with leaner delivery. In the time since that comment was made, the DOT price has gone from $6 to around $4.70, a 50% decrease in value from the value we based the original proposal.

While this 50% decrease in proposal value does impact our near-term revenue, the greater concern is that we forecasted the original budget to deliver enough visibility for the campaigns to reach as much of the addressable Brave audience as possible, with a frequency that ensures they get to see a healthy spectrum of the dApps, services and brand visibility for the Polkadot network as the original proposal intended. 

Given the impact on the demand from the DOT value decrease, we have two options. 1) we top up to ensure best chance of success against the objectives from the proposal or 2) we decrease the pacing of the campaigns we currently have deployed, lowering the daily spend levels and exposure by 50% to continue to deliver the remaining budget for the full duration of the campaign. We don't want to go back on our comment, as our conviction regarding the community, network and proposal remains unchanged. However, we have not invested the energy and effort to get the campaigns to where they are now to want to lose, when we can state that the obvious impact was more significant than anticipated at the time, and that we would like the option to execute fully as the original proposal intended.

We request the top-up as we strongly believe that given the recent impact beyond the initial decrease in value, we are most likely to have the greatest chance of success and opportunity for establishing early fit by giving the campaigns the room to run that we had originally forecasted when DOT was around $9 at the time of the submission for the proposal.

In our initial proposal, we based our financial calculations on the DOT price of $8.722 (7-day EMA based on Subscan on April 10, 2024). This figure was instrumental in planning and budgeting for the milestone we set out to achieve.

**Issue Faced**

On the day of award payout, May 8th 2024, the DOT price had dropped to $6.707 (block 20736000 [https://polkadot.subscan.io/referenda\_v2/663?tab=timeline)](https://polkadot.subscan.io/referenda_v2/663?tab=timeline\)) At first, we anticipated this was a temporary pullback and expected a correction back to the $8.5 range. Unfortunately, this correction never occurred, leading to a significant shortfall in our budget.

**Impact on the Project**

The decline in the DOT price has put the quality delivery of our proposed milestones at risk. Without the necessary funds, we face the possibility of compromising on the quality and scope of our deliverables, which we believe is not in the best interest of the community or the project's long-term success.

**Request for Additional Funding**

To mitigate this situation and ensure the successful completion of our project, we are requesting a top-up of **183.326 USDC** (91.663 DOT x 2$ price difference from proposal date to payout date). This additional funding will cover the losses incurred due to the lower-than-expected DOT price and allow us to maintain the high standards we committed to in our original proposal.

Motif is a smart staking support system designed to simplify and optimize the staking process in Polkadot's NPoS system. Our primary objective is to make staking more accessible and profitable for nominators through advanced data analysis and proactive assistance.

### **Context:**

Staking in Polkadot’s NPoS is currently highly complex, with high dropout rates among nominators and less stability than desired. Our [initial research](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WEhn-kQQjYxpWD8hC05Nc4VK9oPYROFl/edit?pli=1) conducted prior to Milestone 1 showed that a group of nominators consistently achieves the highest APY, highlighting an opportunity for others to improve their staking strategies. Moreover, the current decentralized setup requires users to be proactive in monitoring their stakes, which is highly time-consuming and demands high level of expertise.

1.  **Complexity in Staking:** The NPoS system is complex and challenging for many users, leading to high dropout rates among nominators.
2.  **Need for Proactive Monitoring:** Nominators must actively monitor their stakes, requiring substantial time and expertise.
3.  **Dynamic System:** The fluctuating nature of validator commissions and staking conditions demands constant oversight, risking reduced profitability and engagement.
4.  ‘**Bloatware’** - Keeping users engaged on ‘yet another’ standalone platform is now outstandingly difficult if at all possible.

-   Leveraging a platform already native to most users in the ecosystem as the primary channel for interacting with users. Focusing on Telegram chatbot as primary interaction channel allows users to monitor their stake and ensure that their stakes remain profitable without the need to constantly navigate various platforms.
-   Setting up Notifications for Nominators: Since staking in Polkadot’s NPoS requires proactive oversight, setting up Notifications for important onchain events and possible issues with staking would be highly beneficial and help prevent dropouts and loss.
