Greetings, Polkadot fam.

We are requesting the top-up of our Meetups Bounty #43. We would also like to implement what we learned in the first half-year of our existence. Small meetups strengthen the Polkadot ecosystem and help spread awareness. With a low budget, these meetups can make a significant impact by bringing people together to learn, connect, and grow the Polkadot community—especially in areas that aren’t yet that active. This additional funding will help us reach more regions and support organizers in sharing knowledge about Polkadot.

Besides that, we are proposing **a few changes** to the bounty, such as **changes in rewards for meetup organizers and curators and planned campaigns**. We also took time as curators to go through the [Bounty Compliance Standards](https://polkadot.subsquare.io/referenda/1254) that Tommi recently proposed. We will update our public documents and improve reporting to achieve even deeper transparency.

-   Paying out staking rewards for several validators and their nominators
-   Refunding submission and decision deposits for several referenda on Polkadot and the Collective chains

There are now many more payouts per era as more validators are active and it is becoming difficult to keep up with payments (out of pocket).

PolkaGate is a project that makes it easier for people to use Substrate-based chains like Polkadot and Kusama. It has two main products: the PolkaGate Extension and the PolkaGate MetaMask Snap. PolkaGate is a project that enhances the user experience for interacting with Substrate-based chains like Polkadot and Kusama. It simplifies complex processes such as staking, governance participation, and asset management. With seamless integration into popular platforms like MetaMask and its own dedicated extension, PolkaGate empowers users to manage their digital assets and engage in the network’s governance through intuitive interfaces. Since its inception, PolkaGate has focused on reducing entry barriers for both newcomers and experienced users.

  
2.2 Overview of Products

PolkaGate comprises two core products:  
  
• **PolkaGate Extension**: A browser extension designed to interact with Substrate-based networks. It enables users to manage multiple accounts, sign transactions, and participate in on-chain governance directly from their browser.  
  
• **PolkaGate MetaMask Snap**: A groundbreaking integration that allows Polkadot and Kusama users to manage their assets and participate in staking and governance through MetaMask, one of the most widely-used crypto wallets. This integration brings the Polkadot ecosystem into the hands of millions of MetaMask users, expanding accessibility and reach.

KodaDot has established itself as the leading NFT marketplace on Polkadot Asset Hub, successfully delivering over 40 generative art drops and processing nearly 9,000 NFT mints with a 95%+ success rate. Our infrastructure currently handles 40,000 daily unique requests and maintains over 75,000 NFT metadata entries. As an open-source public good, we've distributed over $400k in bounties to more than 130 contributors, building essential NFT infrastructure for the entire ecosystem.

## The Problem

KodaDot's rapid growth has brought us to a critical juncture. While we're successfully delivering regular generative art drops and serving a growing user base, we urgently need to secure long-term maintenance funding to sustain this public infrastructure. Without dedicated maintenance resources, we can't reliably expand to meet user demands for crucial features like trustless NFT trading and a comprehensive offers system. As the leading NFT platform on Polkadot Asset Hub, consistent maintenance, monitoring, and optimization are essential to ensure the platform remains reliable for the entire ecosystem.

## Our Objectives

We aim to solve these issues by implementing secure peer-to-peer NFT trading through atomic swaps, enabling a flexible offer system for any NFT, and maintaining robust infrastructure. These improvements will significantly enhance the NFT trading experience on Polkadot, making it more competitive with other blockchain ecosystems.

## The Solution

We're proposing three major developments:

1. **Atomic Swaps**: A secure, trustless trading system allowing users to exchange NFTs directly without intermediaries. This includes multi-asset support and optimized pricing, ensuring safe and efficient trades.
 
2. **Offers System**: A comprehensive bidding system enabling users to make offers on any NFT, whether listed or not. This includes time-limited offers, counter-offers, and a notification system to keep users engaged.
 
3. **Infrastructure Enhancement**: Significant improvements to our backend systems, including optimized gateways processing, advanced caching, and enhanced IPFS pinning for reliable NFT metadata storage.
 

## Technical Implementation

Our experienced team of five developers will build these features using our proven technical stack. We're extending our SubSquid indexing nodes, implementing new NFT pallet integrations, and enhancing our caching layer with Stellate. Performance targets include sub-3-second response times for offers, sub-5-second execution for swaps, and 99.9% system uptime.

## Budget

The $280,000 budget breaks down into five focused milestones:

- Offers Implementation: $40,000 (2 months)
- Atomic Swaps: $40,000 (2 months)
- Infrastructure Enhancement: $40,000 (2 months)
- Community Features: $20,000 (1 month)
- 12-Month Maintenance: $140,000

We have been working hard to show our commitment to the Polkadot ecosystem. Here are some things we have done:

We want to do more to help developers in Nigeria and other places understand Polkadot's SDK for dApp development. We plan to do this through training, bootcamps, and hackathons. Our goal is to show how Polkadot can be used to build important decentralized applications and make it a big part of the growing tech world. Following the feedback from our last application in May, we’ve been working hard to showcase our commitment to the Polkadot ecosystem with initiatives entirely self-funded and without any support from Polkadot or its subsidiaries. Some of which include:

Polkadot Growth Initiative

Polkadot's social media management is decentralized, with contributions from ET90266, the Polkadot Social Media Editorial Board (EB), and Distractive. The EB has five members, and there is a proposal to fund their salary for a 6-month term. Each member would receive 2,500 USDT per month. The Web3 Foundation legally owns Polkadot's social media accounts and has entrusted ET90266 to manage them. The EB works with ET90266 and Distractive for content creation and brand alignment. The first EB had impressive growth in reach and engagement. The second EB was selected through an application and interview process, and its members have backgrounds in business development, content creation, social media, copywriting, marketing, and other Web3 areas. They aim to increase Polkadot's social media engagement and reach. The funds will be paid to a 4/6 multisig controlled by the 5 members and ET90266, and distributed in 3 tranches over 6 months. ET90266 will not be compensated from this proposal.

**Should this be funded by the Marketing Bounty?**

-   A proposal to refund the Marketing Bounty recently passed. However the Marketing Bounty is not yet accepting proposals, and will not begin making payouts until December at the earliest.
-   In the future, the community may enact a Wish-for-Change stating that _all_ marketing-related proposals go through the Marketing Bounty. In that case, a proposal like this may go through the Marketing Bounty if the community feels that is the appropriate channel.
-   By going directly through OpenGov, the Editorial Board answers to the community and not the curators of a bounty.

The first EB ran from March 15th, 2024 - September 15th, 2024. During that time, Polkadot’s account saw impressive growth in reach and engagement.

**Editorial Board Selection Process**

-   The application period for the second EB was announced at the end of August (near the end of the 6-month term for the first EB.)
